A Few Things to Know

An incredibly difficult piece to perform, Bartók’s Second Piano Concerto—which was composed in 1930—has not been heard at Orchestra Hall since 1992 and was programmed only one additional time prior to that performance.
Yuja Wang has had many works written for her by prominent composers around the world, including Jennifer Higdon, John Adams, Rodion Shchedrin, Michael Tilson Thomas and Tan Dun.
Beloved Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho passed away on June 2, 2023, in Paris. Her Ciel d’hiver was orginally scheduled for a Minnesota Orchestra program in June 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
