Sarah Hicks

A note from conductor and creator Sarah Hicks

Friends,
Music has been not only the focus of my professional life, but also an important facet of my well-being. It helps me explore my emotions, keep grounded in the present and cope with anxiety. Creating dialogue around music and mental health has always been important to me, and so it’s a joy for me to invite you to “Concert and Conversation: Music & Healing”.

The Minnesota Orchestra and I will be sharing the stage with scientists, musicians and mindfulness experts to create a discussion around the neurobiology of anxiety, the ways in which music can help us express and process anxiety, and how music can be foundational in a mindfulness practice. The concert will also feature a world premiere of a work inspired by audience responses to their own experiences with anxiety, as well as singer-songwriter Chastity Brown, whose music touches on mental health. I hope you’ll join us for a very special evening of music, conversation and connection.

Led by Sarah Hicks, this concert and conversation explores music, anxiety and well-being. The program will feature the world premiere of a new work for orchestra inspired by audience responses to their own experiences with managing anxiety and finding inner peace. Plus, singer-songwriter Chastity Brown, whose music has touched on the topic of mental health, will join the Orchestra for a set of new songs. Audience members will also participate in a mindfulness exercise accompanied by the Minnesota Orchestra.
